August 25, 2006, Newsletter Issue #96: Inpatient Treatment for Marijuana Addiction

Tip of the Week

Inpatient treatment is usually required when a marijuana user has multiple dependencies or serious social or behavioral problems in addition to the marijuana use. Relatively few programs focus solely on marijuana dependency.

Inpatient Marijuana Rehab programs can last anywhere from a few days to a month. One benefit of this treatment is simply spending time away from the drug-using environment, and learning abstinent ways of interacting with the world. Most programs also include an introduction to Narcotics Anonymous or other self-help groups.

Some inpatient programs follow a model of establishing group residences for addicts in recovery, who work to support one another in remaining abstinent.
